Compton Mayor Offers Dr. Dre Key to the City

Compton Mayor Aja Brown has told TMZ that she has reached out to music mogul Dr. Dre, hoping to honor him with a key to the city. The key from Dre’s hometown would honor Dr. Dre’s entrepreneurial spirit and influence in the world of hip-hop, but Mayor Brown admitted that she is also asking him to help restore the city.

Dr. Dre was recently reported to be in talks to sell his Beats Audio company to Apple for an estimated $3.2 billion to Apple. Brown hopes to get the good doctor to restore performing arts or music programs for the youth of Compton. 

If he accepts, Dr. Dre would be the first billionaire honoree, but not the first hip-hop mogul to get a key to Compton. DJ Quik was also was given a key to the city for his charitable work in the area. 

Dr. Dre has been known for putting the spotlight on talented up-and-comers in the world of hip-hop like Snoop Dogg and Eminem, so maybe Compton will be the next in line to get the Dr. Dre bump.
